Understanding Color Schemes
Complementary Colors
Complementary colors are located directly opposite each other on the color wheel, like blue and orange or red and green. When used together, they create high contrast and visual interest. Use them sparingly though - they can be overwhelming if overused.
Analogous Colors
Analogous colors sit next to each other on the wheel - like blue, blue-green, and green. They create harmonious, cohesive designs with a unified feel. They're naturally pleasing to the eye and commonly found in nature.
Triadic Schemes
Triadic colors form a triangle on the color wheel, with three colors equally spaced (120° apart). Examples include red, yellow, and blue. They offer strong visual contrast while maintaining balance.
Monochromatic
A monochromatic scheme uses only one hue with variations in saturation and lightness. This creates a clean, cohesive, and elegant look. It's the easiest scheme to master and always looks professionally designed.
