Understanding the Metrics
📊 Perplexity
Measures how "surprised" a language model would be by each word. AI text tends to have lower perplexity because it chooses predictable words. Human writing has more unpredictability.
💥 Burstiness
Measures variation in sentence length. Humans tend to write with more burstiness - mixing short punchy sentences with longer complex ones. AI often produces more uniform lengths.
📏 Sentence Variance
The standard deviation of sentence lengths. Human writers naturally vary their sentence structure more than AI, which tends toward average-length sentences.
Limitations of Heuristic Analysis
